DeathSycthe Gundam

Synopsis: This figure was the first domestic MSiA I ever owned. Before that I only had the asian release Zaku II and GunCannon before owning the Deathsycthe and since it was also a favorite of mine from the series it was only natural for me to buy it. This series line served as a stepping stone for most of us who own big MSiA collections now.

The Figure: The head of the DeathScythe is well painted although the V-antenna is a little oversized, a trait shared by most of the other Gundam Wing MSiAs. Elevating the head is obstructed slightly from the back neck armor and the torso machinecannons near the neck.

The arms are well articulated but like quite a few MSiAs the arms can't spread far apart to show its arms span. The shoulder armor is well detailed and painted however I feel that they are a little too large for the rest of the figure. On the plus side the armor doesn't interfere with the rest of the arm. The elbow features a little more then 90 degrees of bending range which is acceptable for MSiAs at the time and even now. At this joint the lower arm is also free to rotate. The hands are a little thick and rigid compared to most UC MSiAs but the still can hold the Beam scythe effectively. The Beam Scissors shield plugs to a slot at the side of the forearm.

The legs are well detailed for the figure but the lack of color or panel linels makes the area seem a little bare. Flexible skirt armor allows the leg to move forward pretty well though the rear skirt armor is too rigid. The ankle has an acceptable range of movement with minor hinderance from the ankle armor.

The Torso is well detailed and painted in much the same way as the animated Deathscythe. The backpack is well detailed though the thruster isn't movable though I don't believe its meant to be. Under the thruster pack a small loop is present to house the beam scythe (or the folded up scythe for those of you with the asian release). This loop hinders torso movement however this loop is removable.

The Accessories:

Beam Scythe: The detail job on the scythe is decent and unlike some other Gundam Wing units the beam is removable.

Beam Scissors Shield or Buster Shield: This piece of equipment is one of the more questionable pieces of equipment for deathscythe. The blades on the shield open up to allow for the beam blade to be placed inside.

Play Value: This figure is a terror for leos everywhere! This figure is one of the better ones of the Gundam Wing figures and since this figure suffers only in the lack of a long range weapon but the toy can serve well for play.

Display Value: It's a gundam that looks like the Grim reaper! Its a good display piece and can stand out well.

Dollar Value: The standard price for this release was worth it despite the lack of accessories. But like other figures this is a MSiA best appreciated by a Gundam Wing Fan or person fond of the design.

Conclusion: One of the Best of the Gundam wing line with minor flaws.
